SOME-body got freaked out when their radar detector went off...

From the not-funny-but-OK-well-kinda-funny department:

Someone vandalized a state Highway Patrol cruiser set out as a decoy to deter speeders along Interstate 85 in Durham overnight Friday.

Troopers placed the car along I-85 North, near Glenn School Road, Tuesday, said Patty McQuillian, a spokeswoman for the North Carolina Department of Crime Control and Public Safety. A passing motorist called authorities at 7:19 a.m. Saturday to report that the car had been vandalized.

The vandals busted out all the car's windows with a baseball bat and slashed its seats, McQuillian. The vandalism was so bad, it looked like the cruiser had rolled over in a wreck, she said.

Sick of Fakeouts

Uhm. Good. Either enforce properly or go home. Causing temporary brake-tapping is simply annoying.

eg

i've seen those parked patrol cars & they don't have their radar on...they're just parked. one i saw had some marking on the windshield like it was from motor pool or something.

What you said. Yep.

Actually, I think the parked patrol cars are a great idea (and I admit I have a bit of a lead foot).

The idiot braking happens if there's a patrolman in the car or not, the only difference is that it doesn't cost us to have an officer sitting in it for eight hours.

The vandalism isn't funny - since we're all paying the tab.. Figure it's at least $1000, do you want *your* $1000 in taxes going to fix windows?

Also, Thanks to BCR for keeping us up to date on all things Durham!
