Good news for folks in the vicinity of Broad & Club: Watts Grocery has now opened for its lunch/brunch/dinner/late-night menu, while Broad Street Cafe's kitchen renovations are now complete and the coffeeshop and community space is now serving a growing menu of foodstuffs.
Watts Grocery appears to be off to a very strong start, with very good reviews on the Chowhound board by Durham foodies BryanZ (he of the apartment-gourmet feature in the Indy last year) and Ross Grady; Kelly over at Durham Foodie also gave them a big thumbs up, as did the folks at CookingEatingDurham, a site I didn't even know existed. Stand-outs from the early reviews: none of the service hiccups that have hit other local 'scene' restaurants, fair prices for the quality and portions, and a touch of whimsy in the choices of entrees and desserts.
Amy Tornquist's new restaurant also got a nice nod in the Conde Nast Traveler's The Materialist blog, as did Locopops and Piedmont, along with some Raleigh and Chapel Hill haunts.
For its part, the Broad Street Cafe's new menu now includes a number of sandwiches and wraps prepared fresh on-site, along with a variety of salads and some appetizer fare like nachos, chips and salsa, and a hummus plate.
The Cafe is now open until 11pm Tuesdays through Thursdays and 1am Friday and Saturday nights (closing earlier on Sundays and Mondays.)
