We announced here a few weeks ago that Rick's Diner was making the move up from University Dr. to Shannon Rd.'s Hope Valley Square, the smartly-remodeled neighborhood shopping center anchored by a US Post Office.
At the time, developer Hawthorne Retail Partners shared that they were close to announcing a few more deals. The wait is over -- and for South Durham fans of burgers and pizza, the wait to drive downtown or to meet the city's most popular food truck will be quite a bit shorter.
That's right: OnlyBurger, the cult favorite burger shop on wheels, is opening up their first fixed-location operation at Hope Valley Square come spring 2010. They'll be joined by their corporate cousin, the Durham Catering Company; it'll set up shop next to OnlyBurger on the far left side of the plaza.
OnlyBurger and Durham Catering Company are helmed by Durham's Tom Ferguson.
Also arriving in spring 2010: Pop's Backdoor South Pizzeria, which will open up a new South Durham location in the one-time home of the Heavenly Ham Company. It's the second location for Pop's Backdoor, itself an offshoot of the Peabody Place restaurant that's moving its main dining room over to West Village in 2010.
Throw in the aforementioned Rick's Diner into the mix, along with the plaza's next-door neighbor Tonali, and you've suddenly got quite a few of Durham's finest making retail tracks in the southern side of the Bull City.

Wow, this is great! Two great eateries expanding, and with OnlyBurger opening a non-mobile location I think that my waistline is in trouble!
Congratulations to both businesses!

Both welcome additions that will give those of us in South Durham more eating options!

That's a great trifecta (dare I say Holy Trinity this close to Christmas?) of restaurant tenants. Speaking of Tonali, I still think it is far better than Dos Perros despite all the hype the latter gets. Lacks the atmosphere, of course.

I'm excited and so happy with the way that whole renovation is coming! It's a far cry from the strip mall state it was in just a few years ago! Yeah Durham!
