Two bits of business news from today's Herald-Sun's business/metro reporter Monica Chen.
First, the new Beyú Caffé on Main St. near Five Points may be ready to do a soft opening as early as this week; the establishment will be open as soon as the health inspections are done, it appears.
The café/restaurant's initial hours will be 7am until 11pm, Monday through Saturday. Breakfast, lunch and dinner options will roll along throughout the day, while desserts will be available all day and drinks after noon.
Construction was stymied by the usual pangs and pains, plus a countertop that never showed up and had to be newly sourced. Still, it's been great to walk by the shop downtown and see staff training in the brightly-colored first floor of the Snow Building. Check out Chen's article for the whole scoop.
Also in the coming-soon category: the arrival of a Bikram yoga facility at Golden Belt this spring, fulfilling the eastern Durham arts/residential redevelopment's goal of bringing in a workout or exercise facility.
Bikram yoga is peculiarly well-suited, it seems, to a factory that once ran hot with industrial equipment -- seeing as how this type of exercise is practiced in a room artificially heated to 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
A retail section of the 4,000 sq. ft. is proposed and would sell outfits and personal care items. April is pegged for the opening.
Speaking of new openings, Nomadic Trading Company, formerly of Carrboro, opened this weekend in its new space on Main Street in Durham. The building, across from Brightleaf Square, is the former home of the Ivy Room and Val's Upstairs. Dormant for many years, it has been renovated and Nomadic Trading Co. is its first tenant.

So excited for a new coffee shop downtown. I am disappointed that it's closed on Sunday though. I have spent many a Sunday looking for a good place nearby to grab coffee and coming up empty-handed.

Yeah, Sundays were made to spend in a nice coffeeshop, c'mon!

@Stockard and Nilsson - I've found West End to be the perfect place for coffee on Sundays. I don't recall what time they open but it's fairly early and mostly empty w/ free WiFi and totally comfortable couches and great cappuccino.

@ Will - West End Wine Bar is still out of the coffee bar business until the Main St. construction is done. At least, last I heard -- they still don't have a functioning website.
