Durham's Jaycees have been putting on their annual Haunted House for decades -- this fall's event marks the 37th year for the event, in fact.
This year, the organization is hosting the event at American Tobacco, after a few years at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park across the street. The Crowe Bldg. lobby will offer entry into the event -- but lest you think the home of Saladelia isn't that scary, rest assured that patrons will be descending into the building's rather creepy basement, it seems.
(ATC tenants who have the quasi-privilege of being stuck in an elevator descending into that space instead of up to their offices can attest to the downright creepiness of the lower levels of the old factory complex.)
It's a great (and safe) place to bring little ones for the spooky season -- and a great fundraiser for local non-profits, raising over $20,000 over the past two years. Beneficiaries vary by year, and this year include Genesis Home, Crayons2Calculators, the Kramden Institute, Urban Ministries, APS of Durham and Habitat for Humanity -- along with Capitol Broadcasting's annual Coats for the Kids drive.
Donations of needed supplies earn $2 off the usual $7 admission, while coats bring another $1 off. (Student athletes from Duke and UNC will also host a special night where fan-gear gets a discount and contributes to the charity of that school's choice.)
This year's Haunted House -- themed the "Haunted Prison" -- runs Oct. 23-25 and Oct. 28-31. For more details, including a schedule of which charities benefit on what nights (and what donations they need) or to buy tickets, visit the Jaycees' web site.
Please go Friday, October 30th! Fifty Duke students will be working to raise money for Habitat for Humanity, and we would love your support!
