You've known them for their breakfast and brunch menu. You've loved them for their pastries and breads -- which has brought them accolades from local and national publications.
Now, get ready to have dinner with Guglhupf.
That local favorite whose pronunciation separates recent arrivals from those who've been here a while is adding a dinner menu, starting Tuesday, Oct. 6.
The Guglhupf Café will offer a range of dinner entrees described as "ethnically inspired foods emphasizing the use of local and seasonal ingredients in our welcoming café space." Owner Claudia Cooper notes in an email her goal for Guglhupf to offer "upscale comfort food with a German twist."
Small plates choices include potato latkas with salmon gravlox and zwiebelkuchen, described as a "traditional savory onion tart." Dinner entrees range from slow-braised beef short ribs to grilled salmon to schnitzel to braised rabbit to chicken, fish and steaks.
Dave Alworth, formerly chef at the always-popular 411 West Italian Café (owned by the local restaurant group behind Durham's Mez) will be showrunning in the kitchen for dinners. Their south-central Durham neighbors at the Wine Authorities are preparing the wine list for the new expansion.
In keeping with the spirit found in many of the best of Durham's local restaurants these days, Guglhupf will be using a wide range of local farms to source their foods, including Elodie Farms, Latta Egg Ranch, Lyon Farms, Giacomo's and the Goat Lady Dairy, according to their menu.
And there's one extra goodie of note: their award-winning bakery will be producing the desserts that should make (if history is any guide) fine endings to a night out.
The Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd. staple will be open 5:30-9:30pm Tuesdays through Thursdays and 5:30-10:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays. As before, the establishment is closed Mondays. Reservations are available online.
I had read somewhere that they were hiring additional staff; this must be why. This is rather exciting.

Was grateful to get an invite to the rehearsal dinner on Friday night. Assigned seating gave us the opportunity to get to know some new people. In fact, we were all happily surprised that a whopping three hours had passed by the evening's end. The meal was spectacular! We all shared an array of appetizers and chose from the variety of salads. The entrees and desserts continued to astound us. The Durham restaurant scene gets better and better. Thank you to Claudia at Guglhupf for expanding the menu to include dinner.

I took my first home loans when I was 25 and this helped my family a lot. However, I require the sba loan over again.
