- The N&O's Jim Wise has an introduction to the negotiation process underway between stakeholders to the Falls Lake cleanup -- notably Durham and Raleigh. Our Bull City sits upstream from Falls Lake and sends urban pollution its way, while Raleigh (which never met a subdivision it didn't like) wants to grow rapidly and relies on the lake for much of Wake County's drinking water. Interestingly, the N&O notes that forests and agricultural uses contribute roughly as much nitrogen and phosphorus to Falls Lake pollution as do developed areas, septic systems and point sources like sewage plants. (N&O)
- Not surprisingly, Durham Public Schools are seeing a very high number of applicants for open teaching jobs this year -- a rare bright side to the tough economy, though the unresolved state budget issues still leaves uncertainty as to how many open positions DPS will actually have. (H-S)
- The H-S notes that the East Durham and West Durham post offices are also closing early, along with the downtown location -- the 2 pm daily close weekdays is meant to cut costs in the face of massive losses. (H-S)
- Formerly online-only clothier Bull City Clothing now has a small retail outlet on Iredell St., the brainchild of DSA grad Imhotep Hester. (H-S)
- The H-S takes a look at Bob Dylan, who arrives with Willie, the Wiyos and the boy (John Mellencamp) for a 5:30 pm concert tomorrow at the DBAP. (H-S #1, #2)
