Plans for a Ben Benson's steakhouse downtown may be on hiatus due to the economy, but the Ruth's Chris Steak House that's been under construction in South Durham in recent months has set a late summer opening date.
A press release from Ruth's Chris franchisee Big Steaks Management -- which runs existing restaurants in Wilmington, Raleigh's North Hills, and Cary -- reveals an August 24 opening date for the Southpoint location, and notes the creation of 75 jobs accompanying the restaurant.
The 8,500 sq. ft. restaurant is adjacent to the Hilton Garden Inn across Fayetteville Rd. from Southpoint, and will feature dining, banquet and lounge facilities. The steakhouse is described as offering:
I've never been a huge fan of Ruth's Chris. I think they are way overrated and overpriced. I'm not sure Ruth's Chris is doing themselves any favor by advertising their beef as corn-fed. Grass-fed beef is healthier and natural.

Corn-fed beef tastes better.

I like the outside of my Kobe beef somewhat blackened, especially the fat, and the inside red and juicy. Plenty of real butter, sour cream, bacon, cheese, and salt on my baked potato. Lots of alcoholic beverages to wash it down, and a fine cigar after dessert. I carry along a few nitro-glycerin tablets just in case...

GreenLantern I hope you're bringing along a few hundred dollars as well. I agree with the earlier "overpriced" comment, and only eat at Ruth Chris if my employer or someone else I know in a professional capacity is paying.
