Despite the rough economy, and the loss of its tenant Branch Gallery on Foster St., Scientific Properties has had some positive news to announce of late over at Golden Belt.
First LabourLove Gallery's planned arrival as the first retail business at the one-time textile factory turned arts-themed redevelopment -- and now comes news that the developer has a commercial tenant for the entirety of the 6,200 sq. ft. site of Building 5.
MindWorks Multimedia, which counts among its clients firms like Quintiles and United Therapeutics, will be expanding from their current ad hoc loft space within Golden Belt to a larger office space, taking over the building on the complex's eastern side.
Building 5 was originally intended to be given first priority as "industrial arts" space, such as sculpture or woodworking, in the initial planning for the site; given its loading dock access and large, relatively clear-span interior, as we looked at last winter here at BCR. Even at the time, however, Scientific acknowledged that the building could become home for office space for the right tenant.
From the press release:
The company is no stranger to Golden Belt. They have occupied a loft for the past year and expanded to add two more lofts to their operation. Once MindWorks vacates the lofts and moves into Building 5, it will house a new video and photo production studio, two Avid editing suites and an audio suite.
Look for MindWorks to occupy the space by July.

Cool -- another creative-class company in downtown Durham!! I'm guessing that all my colleagues at Flywheel Design, McKinney, Republik, Ogilvey, Rella Cowan, etc. are happy to have a company like MindWorks nearby. We all want this to become the creative hub of North Carolina.
