Crews from the City's contractor last week began to make their mark on the West Village streetscape effort, underway at last along Main St. between Duke St. and the Downtown Loop.
According to the City's press release:
The City’s contractor, Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., will maintain traffic throughout construction when it can be safely maintained; however at times, traffic will have to be detoured, especially when the contractor is installing the underground power vaults. In this instance, the traffic will be switched to “local traffic only” or detoured for a period of time. The construction will take approximately one year to complete.
On Tuesday afternoon, crews from Lanier Construction Co. could be seen walking the site and getting preparatory work done in advance of the start of the $2.3 million effort.
One sign of progress was, literally, a sign -- noting the participation of the feds in the effort. The Economic Development Administration, part of the US Dept. of Commerce, gave $1 million to the effort.
Curiously, the sign announcing the effort bears at its lower side the words "President George W. Bush."
Either there's been a coup and the news ain't made it to the Bull City, or you can expect someone to be out soon with touch-up paint on that one.

Bush or Obama, what's the difference? The war on terror has become the war on greed.

This is great news! Can't wait to see the finished work! That is odd that Bush's name is on those signs...
By the way, Bush and Obama are a BIG DIFFERENCE!
