Bull City Rising

So I'd be remiss if I didn't note that the Carolina's weekly email update today notes that "Revolution Road" and "The Wrestler" are coming soon to the theater. Huzzah!

Currently showing through Jan. 6: "Milk," "Slumdog Millionaire," and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."

KeepDurhamDifferent!

Eh. I can't get too worked up about the machinations of the greedy studios, because they are only cutting off their noses to spite their face.

As soon as I heard NPR's glowing review of "Slumdog Millionaire" I went and downloaded it for free. More law-abiding types will wait for it to appear on Netflix. Either way, the studio's getting less money than if they had released it widely -- unless you count the millions they will get from teenagers on the latest slasher flick.

The movie industry has learned from the decimation of the record industry; consumers who put a premium on live or "hot" performances are the ones worthy of their efforts. Also benefiting (albeit in slower fashion) are those film snobs like me who value quality over quantity. Thank god Al Gore invented the internet.
