- As expected, the BOCC unanimously approved the Greenfire parking deck partnership for Church and Parrish, and the purchase of the Lakewood Y for transformation into a Montessori magnet middle school. (H-S #1, #2; N&O)
- The H-S has a nice update on the renovation progress over at the old Holton Middle School, with a focus on the 30,000 sq. ft. of space devoted to vocational education in the center. Holton's transformation into a community center for North-East Central Durham is expected to be complete next summer, and it's good to see that the small fire there earlier this year hasn't set things back too much. (H-S)
- Two seniors at NCSSM move on to the finals in the prestigious Siemens Competition; a third NCSSM alumna now at MIT wins a Rhodes Scholarship to boot, as does a recent Duke graduate and a UNC senior from Cary. (H-S; H-S, WRAL)
- Durham again ranked tenth nationally among cities its size for participation in the National Night Out program, while the Audubon Park HOA and the Azalea Park Apartments won NNO "All Star" awards. (H-S)
