Not much in the funny papers this morning; we here at BCR actually dropped a whole 50 cents on a print Herald-Sun this morning, thinking the web site was missing stories.
- The print edition of the H-S does note an interest on the part of City Councilman Eugene Brown in recruiting more new police officers onto the force. City manager Tom Bonfield has promised a response to a memo on the subject that Brown gave to the administration, but noted that much of the problem seems to lie in retaining existing officers, a challenge most recently linked to pay parity issues.
- Also exclusive to the print edition: Duke's new in-patient hospice facility is making good progress in North Durham; it will become only the second such (in-patient) facility in the Triangle when it opens in February. Wealthy Durham developer Gary Hock has donated a staggering $1.25 million to the project, with his brother and sister-in-law giving another $250,000.
- The Somerhill Gallery at the Venable Center has opened its 31st annual holiday exhibition, its first in Durham since moving over from Chapel Hill earlier this year. (H-S)
