Looking to head to the State Fair over in Raleigh over the next couple of weeks? The N&O notes that discount State Fair tickets are available for sale at both Northgate Mall and the Streets at Southpoint:
Fairgoers can save $2 off an adult admission ticket and $8 off a sheet of ride tickets by buying before the fair starts. Advance tickets will be available online and at walk-up locations through Oct. 16, the fair's opening day. The fair runs through Oct. 26.
Advance tickets are $5 for adults and $1 for children ages 6 through 12, while a sheet of 18 ride tickets is $10 in advance.
Meantime, remember you can get to the Fair car-free with DATA, which will be offering bus service from the downtown bus transfer station to and from the fairgrounds in west Raleigh. An hourly shuttle is available seven days a week for a $2 roundtrip fare; under 12 and over 65 ride free with appropriate identification (including in the case of some youth a DATA ID card.) See the DATA web site for more details.
Woah! The DATA website says "Once again, DATA is offering a shuttle service to the **2006** N.C. State Fair..."
Apparently when that bus hits 88 miles per hour...

Triangle Transit is also offering service to the Fair on both weekends of the Fair, so South Durhamites might find it easier to go to Park and Rides at Eubanks Rd in Chapel Hill or the Triangle Transit Center in RTP:
