Fish don't smell good by mid-day if they're in the sun, but don't worry, we've kept the Fishwrap nicely refrigerated for you. (We've been sleeping off the shame of the BoSox/Rays game last night.) Anybody know a more reliable way to get wi-fi in Orlando, anyway?
- 6,264 residents voted in the first day of Durham's early voting, according to the Herald-Sun. Almost 2,000 votes were cast at the NCCU and Duke polls combined, with the Board of Education HQ the peak site at 1,383 votes. Waits were already up to 40 minutes to get into the polls at peak times -- so remember, mid-mornings and mid-afternoons are the best times, and for goodness sake, remember the lines will get worse over the coming weeks. (H-S, N&O)
- Ray Gronberg confirms that the City is holding back almost a half-million from DATA operator MV Transportation, funds the City claims were intended to cover accrued vacation time liabilities and repair/maintenance expenses. City manager Bonfield reiterates that fixing challenges with DATA is on "the high-priority list." (H-S)
- The UNC Board of Governors' audit committee received a report on the unapproved satellite campus that NCCU opened on the Atlanta megachurch campus of one of its trustees under the leadership of now-departed (and in one case, now-deposed) former chancellor James Ammons and his dean team. Among the problems: a lack of accreditation for the program that creates a possible liability to Federal education loan and grant programs of up to $3 million, and credit hour tuition rates one-third below the appropriate non-resident levels. (N&O)
- Crystal Mangum and her apparent publisher/business manager will reportedly hold a news conference this Tuesday at The Know on Fayetteville St. to discuss the publication of the lacrosse case accuser's memoirs. (N&O)
I know the Fishwrap doesn't usually cover campus issues, but the Chronicle has an editorial on OIT improvements:

As a student advisor, I hear a lot of good things about the recent improvements in OIT. The debate about ePrint is a tempest in a teacup, IMO -- who cares whether your balance is in pages or in dollars, or how much you print? The point is to minimize waste and stop the serial abusers of the service, not to make money. Printers are always the biggest cost center in an enterprise IT service.

Not being picky -- especially since you are blogging from miles away -- but I think the popular voting site was the Board of Elections, not the Board of Education. . . either way it was a bustling day for democracy!
