Durham lifts most mandatory water restrictions
It's official: Tom Bonfield has lifted most of the drought-era mandatory restrictions on water use in the Bull City, a move reportedly to be likely earlier in the week and made final on Thursday.
Restrictions on lawn watering by hand-held hose, power washing, car washing and other exterior water uses have now been lifted. The one restriction remaining in effect limits automated sprinkler use to Wednesdays and Saturdays from 5-8am or 5-8pm.
The change, to what's known as Stage II - Voluntary Conservation, comes as Durham's reservoirs have largely filled with more regular rain, and with tropical systems on the way expected to further recharge ground water tables and streams.
Rolling back to stage 2 is further proof that we are surviving the wettest drought on record. :-)
