Durham Farmers' Market kicks off mid-week sales this week
More proof everyone's favorite downtown market is too good for just one day a week: as we noted back in January, the Durham Farmers' Market will be opening up on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30pm until 6:30pm starting tomorrow, May 7. The mid-week market will run through September 24.
The downtown market pavilion in Durham Central Park is of course the home for this now-twice-weekly gathering. In case you're not familiar with this popular Durham institution:
The Durham Farmers’ Market is a producer-only market featuring the produce and wares of more than 50 vendors, all of whom are located within 70 miles of the market. The Durham Farmers’ Market offers locally grown fruits and vegetables, meat, eggs, cut flowers, potted plants, artisanal cheeses and breads, home-baked pies, honey, preserves, hand-made soaps, pottery, jewelry and artwork of all sorts.
According to the market web site, beyond these items above May is typically (though not guaranteed to be) a prime season for asparagus, beets, broccoli, lettuce, onions, spinach, and strawberries, with squash and blueberries sneaking in typically in the latter weeks of the month.
