I'll be away from Durham and the blog the first part of March due to a long-scheduled vacation to London.
But that's not to say there won't be anything new here at BCR. In fact, I'm very pleased to announce that five guest bloggers will be contributing occasional stories here over the next week and a half. Look for their posts below this announcement, and click beyond the cut to find more about our guest contributors.
A big thanks to them for keeping this place running while I'm gone. See y'all in a few days.
- Michael Bacon lives in Old West Durham and is active in neighborhood and civic affairs. Michael's musings on topics in Durham and beyond can be found over at his regular blog, The Bull in Full.
- Chuck Clifton lives in the Long Meadow neighborhood in south-central Durham and is active in its neighborhood association. Chuck is also one of the key organizers of the Save the Lakewood Y movement fighting the good fight to preserve a community institution.
- Aidil Collins, a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, lives in a beautiful Victorian home in East Durham and is a key mover-and-shaker behind the "Uplift East Durham" effort and recent home tour. Learn more about her neighborhood's efforts at the Uplift East Durham blog.
- Barry Ragin is a native New Yorker who's lived in Durham for the past fifteen years; he's a past president of the Duke Park Neighborhood Association and is active in civic affairs, especially concerning traffic/pedestrian issues. Barry holds court daily at his popular Durham blog, Dependable Erection.
- Melissa Rooney lives in the Fairfield neighborhood south of I-40 and is one of the most passionate advocates for South Durham issues in the public and civic spotlight. The N&O named Melissa one of the Triangle's top eight "residents to watch" in 2008.
Oh cool, all of Barry's wingnuts can come poop all over these comments, too.

hey - i'll bring my sycophants as well.
my intent is to respect what Kevin has done here and bring a couple of informative items up for discussion, with only a modicum of opinion.

Barry's wingnuts have been here for some time (I have, anyway).
I'll try to confine Nifong comments to Barry's site, but you know for some people it always comes back to this case.

Where is the coverage of Duke's slashing the plans for Central Campus? The Ninth Street merchants must be peeing themselves in glee. Me, not so much.
Calling John Schelp....

As I see it, the Barnes & Noble on central is out. With it will go the proposed Duke bus from Central up Ninth St., as well as changing Campus Dr. into a pedestrian mall (no cars except buses powered by Dukies's own sense of superiority).
