We've talked here before about the plans for Treyburn Commons, a proposed small (90,000 sq. ft.) shopping center at the corner of US 501 and Roxboro Rd. in northern Durham County. First Carolina Properties ran a rezoning request through the local government machinery earlier this year, in the end winning a zoning change for the site from the County Commissioners back in May.
A reader informs us that the shopping center plans appear to be on hold -- his call into First Carolina Properties received an answer that the developer has decided not to move forward with the project, and that they believe their former partner in the deal is not planning to do so, either.
North Durham retail eyes will likely turn instead towards the West Point[e] Village planned for the corner of Infinity and Roxboro to bring retail to a part of Durham that is, after East Durham, the most underserved for shopping and grocery options. That project, for better or worse, is at the moment the only retail development going through for this part of the city, whose demographics would suggest a stronger retail presence than reality has allowed. (West Pointe Village, for what it's worth, still isn't listed on developer Crosland's web site, suggesting it's still in the very early planning phases.)

I heard directly from the site planner that the West Pointe Village project is on hold indefinitely. The developer, Crosland, apparently pulled the application soon after the planning commission approved the re-zoning. I would speculate that their change of heart was due to the massive traffic improvements that would have been required by NCDOT.
And, to clarify: the First Carolina project was planned not for "501 and Roxboro" but at the intersection of 501/Roxboro & Orange Factory Road near Snow Hill.
Keep up the great work on this outstanding local blog!
