Joe's provided the update on (and first impressions of) Six Plates Wine Bar over at his blog. As we talked about back in October, Six Plates takes the slot at Erwin Terrace formerly held by Wishbone Grille; it bills itself as Durham's only wine bar, and will open at 4 pm daily except Tuesdays.
Six Plates is the brainchild of Matthew Beason, formerly a partner in Pop's and Rue Cler and a onetime general manager for Nana's. The wine-and-dine concept as described on Six Plates' web site:
The wine list will feature 100 bottles of wine and six wines by the glass, which will rotate on a nightly basis. Co-owner Matthew Beason expects the wine list to eventually grow to 300 bottles. Beer by the bottle and nonalcoholic beverages will also be available.
The nightly small plates menu will match the by the glass offerings. Chef Ted Domville, formerly of Chive, a small plates restaurant in San Diego's Gaslamp district, will offer "six plates" each evening. The dishes, focused on food from local purveyors, will incorporate the clean flavors of California cuisine. A nightly cheese plate will accompany the menu.In addition to the bar, Six Plates will offer lounge-style seating and tall tables for patrons who prefer a dining experience. A private tasting room that can accommodate twelve is also available. Weekly tasting events and live music will also be offered.
