I can only pray Victoria Peterson gets knocked out of the box in the primary -- IMO, her comments about gays are beyond "controversial" and border on... well, I won't say psychotic, but I will say I think a shrink would have a field day with them. Interestingly enough, she was at the Gay Pride parade this weekend glaring on from the sidelines on Ninth Street near Francesca's and the toy store corner. A PFLAG mother went up to her and started giving her a piece of her mind. I'd like to know why Peterson was there in the first place -- she wasn't anywhere near the (obviously hired from day labor pools) religious protesters, she was just standing with a female friend in the crowd. Why go to an event consisting of a bunch of people you hate?

People were handing out slips of paper with her anti-gay record on it, by the way, and direct quotes from her taken from newspaper articles about how gays were "disease-ridden" and worse. I hope the gay community gets the word out and goes to the primary and votes for anyone else besides her.

Oh, Lord -- more on Victoria Peterson. For *anyone* who thinks she may have mellowed, here she is on YouTube touting her anti-choice credentials:

I got one of those handouts at the parade. Her comments are outrageous. Here's what it says:

Did You Know?
Victoria Peterson, who is currently running for Durham City Council, said this about gays in 2003 as president of Christians for Morality in Government:

“Many of them are infected with diseases, and their lifestyles are very, very dangerous. … Who’s going to pay this expense if they get sick in their gay lifestyle?” And if “they [gays and lesbians] are not infected with diseases … they will be, even women.”

“… [A]pproving these health benefits for sodomites ought to be illegal because the law does not recognize sodomy. … If this is approved in Durham County, we’re going to have gays coming from all over the country. It’s going to be a burdensome expense on taxpayers.”

Peterson told a North Carolina House committee: “They could come to work dressed one day looking like a female and two weeks later looking like a male. We do not recognize people who actively engage in a gay lifestyle.” She explained that anti-discrimination legislation wasn’t needed because “[T]he gay community makes plenty of money. Just because of how you have sex, does not mean anyone is entitled to special rights.”
