I talked to some of the folks who work at bean traders about the ox and rabbit. Supposedly sundries means stuff that you would normally find at a drug store, excluding the actual prescription drugs. So deodorant, pencils, toothpaste, stuff like that. So, it could be an actually useful retail store on 9th st that isn't a chain. Cozy and vaguely reminiscent are great places - but I don't often need to shop there and when I need something like toothpaste my options are cvs up at broad and guess or whatever wholefoods has.

This is exciting news; I can't wait to share a chocolate coke with the kids. I can't help but think that Durham establishments can stop now with the ______ & _________ naming convention. I think I'm going to confuse Ox & Rabbit with parker & otis.

The Fox and Goose was my favorite watering hole when i lived in Sacramento. Karen Joy Fowler, whose recent novel "The Jane Austen Book Club" has been turned into a movie that will be released this fall, set her short story, "Game Night at the Fox and Goose," there.

The first bar i was ever a regular in was P & G's (which stood, as i recall, for Pat and Gerry).

I think it's a fine tradition that Durham could stand to see more of.
