National kudos for Piedmont -- the new Foster St. restaurant from Andy Magowan, Drew Brown, and Abby Pearce -- from Conde Nast magazine in their 2007 Hot List of best new restaurants. Here's what the magazine had to say (who knew we had a 'gallery district?')
Wedged between art studios in Durham's gallery district, Piedmont is an appealing combination of farm-fresh earnestness and contemporary style in an airy bi-level warehouse. Local foodies and chefs come for uncomplicated, locally sourced dishes such as the seared yellowtail North Carolina tuna with roasted fennel and the pork osso bucco with white beans and kale (entrées, $11–$17).
37 restaurants from around the US were chosen for this year's list, with the Piedmont being one of just two restaurants in the Carolinas chosen for this year's list (Herons, the new restaurant at Ann Goodnight's Umstead Hotel in Cary, was the other).
