Rumor has it that Rue Cler, downtown's upstart French bistro and bakery/cafe from the Pops folks, is considering an expansion eastward to take over the Ward's Furniture space, too. Reportedly the Ward's space would be turned into a wine bar, something currently missing in the greater downtown restaurant range. There's also discussion of expanding late-night services beyond the current 10pm close.
Reportedly nothing is set in stone with this expansion, but it would mark an interesting expansion for Rue Cler, which has done very well on an otherwise sleepy block in downtown. Rue Cler has now completed its second weekend of Saturday brunch and cafe operation and business has been brisk, in no small part due to the new Farmer's Market pavilion and this weekend's Full Frame/Art Walk combination.
Wow! This would be awesome. I am rooting for it to happen for sure.
