So you know you're a Durham news geek when you get a kick out of reading the staff memos on the City Council's work session agenda. But hey, that's what BCR is here for, right?
Since we're on the subject of trails today, Ed Venable's memo requesting funding for several small sidewalk and traffic calming projects includes funding for an improvement project by the simple name of "Stadium Drive Sidewalk."
I don't know this for sure... but I suspect this segment runs between Broad Street and North Duke Street. If so, the completion of this stretch isn't merely any sidewalk, but the missing link in Durham's North-South Greenway, which runs from Trinity Avenue through Northgate, Rock Quarry and Whipporwhill Parks to its current end at Horton Road. The Stadium Drive extension routed the greenway from Carver St. to Broad St., but it's two blocks of on-street riding to connect back to the trail (ironically, in front of NCDOT's District Five office!)
Sounds like a small matter, but recent posts to the Durham Bike & Ped listserv has shown some ongoing confusion about precisely what happens to the greenway at Duke Street.
This would cover the missing segment between Duke and Broad. I'm not 100% positive which side of Stadium it would be built on, but it seems that the southern side would be the path of least resistance.

Dan: Thanks for confirming this. I'll bet you're right about it being the southern side that gets it. It'll be nice just to see this one missing piece done with.
